Dr. James Crosby M.S., PhD., CBCC-KA, is a retired Police Lieutenant (Jacksonville Sheriff's Office, Jacksonville, FL) and has professionally trained dogs, taught individual and group obedience classes, and addressed canine behavior problems since 1999. He served as Division Management Consultant of Jacksonville Animal Care and Protective Services, the municipal agency responsible for rescue and adoption needs, investigation of animal cruelty, animal fighting, and regulation of Dangerous Dogs for the 964 square miles and nearly 1 million residents of Jacksonville. Holding a Master of Science in Veterinary Forensic Medicine and a PhD in Veterinary Medical Science, Dr. Crosby is recognized in and out of Court as an expert in the US and Canada on Dangerous Dogs, canine aggression, fatal dog attacks, and related issues. He has personally investigated over 30 fatal dog attacks on humans and, has post-attack, evaluating over 50 dogs that have attacked and killed humans. Dr. Crosby teaches safe handling and rehabilitation of Dangerous Dogs and Investigation of Fatal and Serious Dog Attacks to police, animal control agencies, and others across the US and Canada. He has been instrumental in a number of successful prosecutions focused on dog related fatalities. Dr. Crosby continues to present training seminars internationally in Italy, Canada, the UK, Warsaw, Poland, in Australia, where he was project Chair for revamping and improving Animal Services for the Australian Capital Territory. Growing up in Connecticut, Christel Fleming joined the United States Air Force. After 14 years of committed service as a Radiologic Technologist, a medical separation prompted a significant career shift. Driven by her lifelong passion for animals and teaching, Christel combined these interests by becoming a dog trainer. In 2012, she graduated from her initial dog training program and established a business offering private in-home lessons. Seeking further expertise, Christel earned her Canine Training and Behavior Specialist certification from Starmark Academy in 2017. Later that year, she relocated to St. Augustine, Florida, to dedicate her skills to training service dogs for K9s for Warriors, a local non-profit. Within just three years, Christel's talent led to her promotion as Manager of K9 Training. She played a vital role in transforming the organization's training methods from the use of aversive tools to relationship-based approaches, collaborating with Precision Behavior to enhance staff expertise and prioritize canine well-being. During her time as Training Manager, Christel spearheaded the development of several key initiatives: a mentorship program for experienced trainers, a K9 Trainer Apprenticeship Program for new staff, a Prison Program providing inmates with valuable skills, a career progression path to improve trainer retention, and standardized training criteria with incremental testing to ensure consistency. Although she valued the opportunity to enact positive change, Christel missed working directly with dogs. He helps thousands of dogs and cats every year in shelters across the country. He provides community support with virtual, phone or in-home behavioral consultations in order to help pet parents keep their animals instead of surrendering them to a shelter and he serves as a mentor for new and existing dog trainers in the Florida area. I have been active in dogs for over 15 years. I began showing Bearded Collies 35 yrs ago. I have finished several champions and have qualified for Westminister Kennel Club Show. I have also competed in obedience. I currently own 2 maltese, one long haired chihuahua mix and one terrier mix. One of my little maltese enjoys agility and my terrier mix is preparing to compete in obedience. My terrier mix suffers from separation anxiety and even though it is a slow process, I am happy to say that she is much improved. I believe that each dog is an individual and there is no one-size-fits all training. There are basic approaches that are helpful, but the trainer needs to be mindful of each individual triggers and work with both dog and owner to solve these issues.

My long term goal is to help make the work a better place for dogs and humans. I focus on general obedience at present with hopes to become certified in other areas as well. While working for the a humane society I noticed that a good number of the dog being surrendered could have made/will make wonderful pets with the right foundation. I believe a solid foundation in the basics can go a long way in helping a dog overcome most obstacles that life will bring. I currently offer training classes at Coastal Veterinary Hospital and Pet Resort off of Beach Blvd.

To use my skills a dog trainer to help dog owners understand their pets easier. I have a strong work ethic and passionate drive that I believe could be put to use as a dog trainer. I am a graduate of Animal Behavior College as well as a full member of the Association of Pet Dog Trainers. I do private in-home visits and work with the owner to help solve the dog’s behavior problem(s) using positive reinforcement, patience and leadership techniques. I encourage the use of treats, toys and affection to help motivate the dog and also try to make training entertaining and fun for the dog owner. I work primarily in St. Augustine, Florida but also provide services in the Manistee, Michigan area a few months out of the year. The training equipment I prefer to use are the Control Ease and Holt padded head collars and the Herm Sprenger prong collar. I am very comfortable using these collars and have used them on all three of my dogs. On occasion I offer group classes through local rescues and shelter organizations in St. Augustine, Florida and Manistee, Michigan with part of the fee going to the rescue or shelter. Coming soon I will be offering small intimate classes at my home limited to six dogs. I also started a free dog walking club called Be A Pack Leader Dog Walking Club over 7 years ago and anyone is welcome to join us. It’s a great way to socialize your dog and get exercise too. In February 2012 I established a unique Be A Pack Leader Dog Training Scholarship Program to provide training for dogs and their owners who need a chance to solve behavior problems. Hi, my name is Eleanor McCoy. I am a dog trainer, pet sitter and dog walker in Fort Lauderdale, FL. I started East Paws Pet Services in 2008 and began this pet sitting, dog walking and pet care services journey. At that time I was employed by the School Board of Broward County as a bookkeeper and also worked in fitness clubs as a Certified Group Fitness Instructor. I have been a member in good standing with the National Association of Professional Pet Sitters (NAPPS) since 2008. I am currently a lead trainer at the Zoom Room Boyton Beach. In my own practice, I am a positive Reinforcement trainer and behaviorist. Heather Gibbs received her training certification through the Animal Behavior College. Heather is also a certified AKC Canine Good Citizen Evaluator, as well as a Certified Pet Dog Trainer (Knowledge Assessed) from the esteemed Certification Council for Professional Dog Trainers (CCPDT). She worked in behavior modification and animal care for several organizations including Southeastern Guide Dogs and the Animal Rescue Foundation of Texas before joining the Humane Society of Pinellas team. Heather practices positive reinforcement training through bonding exercises, enrichment, and reward-based behavior modification. She currently owns five rescue animals; four dogs and her horse, Mike.

I am a native of Toledo, OH and made a decision in March 2015 to move to Palm Beach Gardens, FL to realize my dream of working with dogs. I am a true dog lover, they are my passion! Earning my Dog Trainer certification has allowed me to do what every person should do, which is waking up every day and doing something you love for a living. I look forward to interacting with my clients and their dogs and I am always excited to see the progress that every dog makes. It’s so rewarding! I currently have two dogs of my own – Bella is a Beagle/Yellow Lab mix who is 10 years old and Lola is a Terrier mix who is 5 years old. They were both rescued. My goal as a Dog Trainer is to keep animals in their loving homes so they don’t end up in a shelter due to behavioral issues.
