Canine Aggression Consulting LLC. Dr. James Crosby M.S., PhD., CBCC-KA, is a retired Police Lieutenant (Jacksonville Sheriff's Office, Jacksonville, FL) and has professionally trained dogs, taught individual and group obedience classes, and addressed canine behavior problems since 1999. He served as Division Management Consultant of Jacksonville Animal Care and Protective Services, the municipal agency responsible for rescue and adoption needs, investigation of animal cruelty, animal fighting, and regulation of Dangerous Dogs for the 964 square miles and nearly 1 million residents of Jacksonville. Holding a Master of Science in Veterinary Forensic Medicine and a PhD in Veterinary Medical Science, Dr. Crosby is recognized in and out of Court as an expert in the US and Canada on Dangerous Dogs, canine aggression, fatal dog attacks, and related issues. He has personally investigated over 30 fatal dog attacks on humans and, has post-attack, evaluating over 50 dogs that have attacked and killed humans. Dr. Crosby teaches safe handling and rehabilitation of Dangerous Dogs and Investigation of Fatal and Serious Dog Attacks to police, animal control agencies, and others across the US and Canada. He has been instrumental in a number of successful prosecutions focused on dog related fatalities. Dr. Crosby continues to present training seminars internationally in Italy, Canada, the UK, Warsaw, Poland, in Australia, where he was project Chair for revamping and improving Animal Services for the Australian Capital Territory. During the Fall of 2023 he will be presenting training internationally in Liverpool, England, Dublin, Ireland and Gold Coast Australia. Domestically he will be presenting training in Massachusetts, New Jersey, and South Carolina. Dr. Crosby also maintains on-line training offerings through the International Association of Animal Behavior Consultants.

I have ten years experience working with dogs, and their people, suffering from behavioral issues. My areas of specialization are dogs that are fearful or making aggression displays. I will work with these dogs with, and without, a bite history. because so much of aggression in dogs is routed in fear, my goal is to help these dogs develop confidence and recognize that the world is not such a scary place after all. To do this it's critical to help the dog's people learn how to recognize when their dog is becoming uncomfortable and how to diffuse the situation. I work with all dogs using the Least Invasive, Minimally Aversive (LIMA) techniques and work to instill trust in both dog and their people.

I have a giant schnauzer service dog trained for mobility/stability and we went to school for 2 yrs. I also am a graduate of ABC College and have a passion for dogs.

My long term goal is to help make the work a better place for dogs and humans. I focus on general obedience at present with hopes to become certified in other areas as well. While working for the a humane society I noticed that a good number of the dog being surrendered could have made/will make wonderful pets with the right foundation. I believe a solid foundation in the basics can go a long way in helping a dog overcome most obstacles that life will bring. Kate Godfrey, ABCDT, owner of Comprehensive Canine Training, LLC, is an honors graduate of the Dog Obedience Instructor Program of Animal Behavior College. She did an extensive training externship with mentor trainer Stacy Strickland of Jacksonville Pawsitive Training, Inc. Kate is also an alumnus of the University of North Florida, with bachelor’s degrees in English and Philosophy. She is a proud member of the Association of Professional Dog Trainers, the Pet Professional Guild, and is a Fear Free Certified Professional. There are various methods of dog training, but Kate is a major advocate for using science-backed, force-free methods. Our philosophy is reward the positive and ignore the negative (unless it is a danger to do so). We also encourage our humans to channel their inner cheerleader and effusively praise their dogs for desired behavior. We don’t believe that we have to be the alpha over our dogs. Research has shown that, in domesticated dogs, this is not necessary. We do, however, need to be the adult and set boundaries, as we do with young children. We use positive training and basic psychology, working with a dog’s basic instincts for unconditioned things, like food, toys and praise, to condition a dog to do things that may not be instinctual, like sit and stay. While treats and toys are important to teach new behavior, praise is the most important reward for our dogs. Once a behavior is learned, dogs are weaned off treats or toys and do things we ask because they want to please us. We use hands-off training because we believe that hands are for loving not for teaching. We also don’t believe in punishment. We want our dogs to love us, not fear us. Dogs respond very well to this type of training. This type of training not only keeps our dogs safe; but, helps them become responsible members of the household. Further, we know through experience that not all behavioral issues are training issues and we know when we can help and when we need to call in the experts!
