Our mission at Ready, Set...Train! is to strengthen the relationshipbetween dogs and humans by creating an open line ofcommunication. We believe in training dogs and teaching people.Dogs learn appropriate ways to act and how to ask for things they want, and people learn how to better understand and communicate with their dogs. Compassion and positive reinforcement are the foundation for accomplishing understanding between you and your canine companion. Training is a partnership. Both the human and animal side of the relationship is important. Behavioral problems are the number one cause of owner frustration and ultimately relinquishment for dogs under the age of three. Most of these behavioral problems can easily be avoided with a positive training approach and plan. Owners can prevent problems before they happen or remedy problems that are already present. Your dog is a family member and that is why we encourage every member of the family to be involved with the training. Our family-friendly approach to training can be learned and implemented by the entire family. Instead of focusing on what the dog is doing wrong, we teach the dog the behaviors we want them to perform. This method is scientifically proven to be the fastest form of training. This is great news for dog owners! Currently, top search and rescue, drug detection, and service dog organizations are adopting these training methods because of fast learning and reliable results. We believe that learning is a life-long endeavor. Our goal is to become better trainers and teachers for our clients and their animals. We attend continuing education events, acquire certifications, and participate in college-level courses to deepen our understanding of animal behavior. We hope you will choose Ready Set...Train! for your training and behavior needs!

Begin on the right path to a well-behaved dog by planning and setting rules early. Every interaction with your puppy can be a learning experience for you both. Learn appropriate ways to reward and eliminate behaviors. Socialize in a safe environment. Play games and have fun while teaching your pup manners. Group Classes: Our classes provide your family with dog training that works - through every stage of your dog's life as they grow up in your home. We've been training dogs in the Dayton area since 2001. This is not your typical dog obedience class! We use clicker training to dramatically speed up the learning process and offer a clear way to communicate with your dog. Not sure you want to use the clicker? Don't worry, you can still get great results at our classes. Families and children welcome! In Home Training: Learn to communicate with your pup in the privacy of your own home. Perfect for owners that can not commit to a 6 week class. We offer flexible scheduling to maximize your success. Day Training: Let us do all the training for you while you are at work or school. We will come train your pup 4 sessions during the week and follow up with you for the 5th session. The most efficient way to get the training you need for your pup.

With over 25 years of dog training experience, I am able to offer all levels of training including puppy and adult problem solving, housebreaking and manners as well as aggressive behavior modification. I started out in the competition world. I have titles in Obedience, Agility and Herding. This fueled my desire to learn more about behavior. It tortured my heart to see how competition dogs were treated. This led me to the positive reinforcement world. I have certifications through Karen Pryor Academy and Certification Council of Professional Dog Trainers. Both organizations require a code of ethics and testing of your knowledge and training skills. I have stayed current on the latest science based training techniques and research by attaining 100's hours of continuing education. I pride myself on using the most current, scientific methods of training in resolving issues. This truly builds trust on both ends of the leash. My joy comes from watching your bond grow with your pup as we work toward your goal. I offer virtual and in-home training. I do not currently teach group classes. I have owned and trained Rottweilers for over 30 years.

I was born an animal lover! I was also born into the military. Our travels allowed me to experience different cultures and social norms, but the lifestyle wasn't ideal for having a pet. Even so, I always knew I'd work with animals. As a teen, I began volunteering at the local zoo. (This was prior to moving to Ohio and when child labor laws were... not what they are now.) I was very lucky. First of all, there were no injuries. Second of all, I actively worked with the zookeepers and learned about animals diets, habitats, and safe handling. Bears, Lions, Elephants, Reptiles, and even Sea Lions were a part of my work. Unfortunately, the day I came home to tell my mom about cleaning the crocodile pond while the zookeeper kept the crocodile distracted on the other side of the enclosure, was my last day at the zoo. My next volunteer opportunity was in a shelter where I walked dogs, cleaned cages, made sure they were fed, and had fresh water. By now, we had two family dogs, a Shiba Inu and a Rottweiler-Lab mix. After retiring from the military, we moved to Ohio. While in college, preparing to study zoology, and living in my first apartment, I was determined to have my own dog. I did everything wrong! I chose a breed based on looks alone. I did not research said breed beforehand. I found puppies for sale in the newspaper. (Yes, they were still printing the news and classified ads.) I drove an hour into the country to buy a Basset Hound from a backyard breeder! Within a week we were enrolled in puppy training classes, had bought any book found on Basset Hounds or raising a puppy, and shifted my studies to applied animal behavior. She was the dog that started it all! I began my professional dog training career by teaching group classes. These included everything from Puppy to Advanced levels, Tricks, intro to Agility, CGC test prep, and Therapy Dog test prep. I was lucky enough to have two fantastic mentors along the way. Quickly, my interests grew to include work in rescue, training programs in shelters, working with special needs dogs, Service Dog task and alert training, behavior modification with reactive and fearful dogs, hiking and outdoor safety, paddle boarding with my dog, and more! Group classes can certainly be beneficial, and cost effective, but even a robust syllabus can skim over some topics or overload clients with unnecessary information. I have found, when training is approached on an individual level with personalized lessons, we see the best outcomes. Given the limitations on what you can replicate in a facility, I opened Doggy Einstein Training! As a traveling trainer, I can create the services, convenience, and flexibility that clients need. This also gives us the ability to work within the environment where the behavior is occurring. In addition to training and behavior modification, I have work experience in grooming and at a veterinary clinic. I spent one long, hot summer bathing dogs in a salon where I learned about common frustrations, to help improve future experiences for both pet and groomer. More recently, I was awarded the opportunity to attend the Columbus Humane Essential Care Pathways Veterinary Assistant training program. I have also worked in my veterinarians clinic to broaden my education on the connections between illnesses, medication, and behavior. Certified by CCPDT. Professional Member of APDT. Bonded and Insured. Serving Columbus, Ohio and the surrounding areas since 1999.

As a dedicated and passionate positive reinforcement dog trainer, I have devoted my life to enhancing the bond between humans and their canine companions. My journey into the world of dog training began years ago when I adopted my beloved dog, Ned. From that moment on, I discovered the joy and fulfillment of working with dogs and their owners to create harmonious relationships built on trust and respect. My approach to training is grounded in the philosophy of positive reinforcement. I believe that every dog, no matter their background or challenges, has the potential to thrive and learn in a nurturing environment. Developing customized training plans that appreciate each dog’s individuality has been deeply rewarding. Seeing the light in their eyes when they succeed is a profound reminder of why I chose this path. I share my knowledge and love for training with fellow dog lovers, offering workshops and private sessions that empower them to cultivate strong, loving connections with their furry friends. When I’m not training, you can find me outdoors, relishing nature’s beauty alongside Ned. We are inseparable partners in adventure, often hiking through lush forests, exploring scenic trails, or discovering serene lakes. With each outing, I find inspiration in the natural world and the joy it brings to both of us. Whether it’s the thrill of a steep climb or the calm of a gentle breeze, nature fuels my spirit and invigorates my training sessions with Ned. In addition to my work and outdoor explorations, I am an avid cook. I embrace the culinary arts with the same enthusiasm I bring to training. Experimenting with new recipes and flavors offers creative outlets and opportunities to nourish my body and spirit. Sharing these culinary delights with friends and family, often alongside dog-friendly treats for Ned, brings joy and connection to my life. Life as a positive reinforcement dog trainer is not just a career; it’s a passion that intertwines community, nature, and creativity. Each day offers new challenges and triumphs, and I am endlessly grateful for the opportunity to work with incredible dogs and their people. Together, we not only enrich our lives but also the world around us. Here’s to the adventures yet to come – with Ned by my side and a new recipe waiting to be tried!

ABCDT | Fear Free Trainer Certification | Dog Training

Amy has always had a passion for animals, her love for them began on her family farm. As a child she was always bringing home injured and stray animals to try to help them. Amy’s dog training journey began when she was sixteen years old and rescued a dog named Max. Max was an Australian Shepherd who came to live with her and her family when he was eight months old. Max had been purchased by a college student from a pet store. The college student left him alone for hours tied to the wall of her very small apartment while she worked, went to classes & hung out with friends. Max was wild to say the least and Amy spent all of her free time working and training Max. With a lot of patience and training Max became a wonderful addition to the family. Max was the spark that lit the flame of her passion to save dogs on a much larger scale. In 2003 after graduating from The Ohio State University with double bachelor’s degrees, Amy started volunteering for various animal rescue organizations. In 2006 she founded Multiple Breed Rescue and began taking in puppy mill dogs. She worked with mill dogs to help them understand life outside of the mill. She worked primarily with Jack Russell terriers (JRT). Later she expanded to other breeds with behavioral or serious medical issues that were at the local pound. In 2012 Amy was contacted by Cleveland animal control officers, who had disbanded a dog fighting ring and asked if she could help some of the dogs. She agreed to take four of the survivors and rehabilitate them. Through her dedication she was able to help three of the dogs and teach them that they did not need to be fearful or fight for their lives ever again. After some time, three of the dogs were successfully placed in loving homes in which they lived long happy lives with their families and furry siblings. The City of Cleveland gave recognition to Amy for her dedication and success with rehabilitation of the dogs. Amy is a member of Association of Professional Dog Trainers (APDT) and International Association of Animal Behavior Consultants (IAABC). She is a member of and is certified through the International Association of Canine Professionals (IACP-CDT). She earned her Master’s Certificate in Dog Aggression, is a certified trainer through the International School for Certified Dog Trainers (CDT-C), Certified Trainer through Animal Behavioral College (ABCDT), Certified in Pet CPR, completed Fear Free Shelter Training, Certified as a Shelter Trainer, AKC Evaluator, Certified in Pet Massage, Certified in Pet Nutrition and is currently going pursuing certification through IAABC and CCPDT. She is also LIMA (Least Invasive Minimal Aversive) complaint. She continues to participate in seminars & workshops to further her education. She believes that there is always room for growth through education. She believes every dog is an individual who learns differently, the more tools she has the more success the dog will have. Amy customizes her approach for each dog she trains. Every dog she rescues, trains or owns is a learning experience and an opportunity to change their lives for the better.

Susan Hagerman

Maumee, OH

Dog Training

After I graduated Animal Behavior College I opened my business β€œPet Dog Sit-uations, LLC” where I teach Basic Obedience, Puppy Socialization, Canine Good Citizen. Being involved with an Education Center and a shelter has been a rewarding experience teaching people to train their dogs using Force Free methods and encouraging dog owners to be responsible. I have had dogs most of my life, including a wolf, Nikaya. Watching her with my other dogs taught me as much about canine behavior and communication as what she learned from me. As a volunteer at local shelters, I work with and foster dogs that need socialization and basic training. Shy and fearful dogs are my specialty and have helped young adults train their own service dogs. Seminars and workshops also keep me busy so I can continue learning to be a better trainer/instructor.

Welcome to the Dog House! We believe in giving you and your pet the best chance for a happy, healthy relationship through training and behavior modification. Training can be fun and also is one of the most important ways you can keep your dog safe and make him or her a good companion that is welcome many places. Bethany Disher is a certified dog trainer through Animal Behavior College and has worked, lived, trained and shown in the dog world for several years. Her first introduction to training came through horse training, which taught patience and also how to modify training approaches to fit different situations. She switched to dog training with the arrival of her Labrador Retriever, Onyx, with whom she has shown in Rally Obedience ever and has also worked through advanced obedience. She is currently looking to complete her first title in Rally-O. Her focus in training is on common training difficulties and behavior modification. Besides holding a certification, she has worked for a boarding center which has greatly improved her ability to read and understand dogs. She also completed an apprenticeship with a groomer while working there which has given her the knowledge to properly groom dogs. She continues to pursue further education and is looking into expanding her certifications, with goals set towards APDT and CCPDT, and getting certified in grooming
