Gina DeStaffany is a Certified Dog Behavior Consultant (CDBC) through the International Association of Animal Behavior Consultants (IAABC), a Certified Professional Dog Trainer (CPDT-KA) through the Certification Council for Professional Dog Trainers (CPDT) and a Fear Free Certified Trainer (FFCT). Gina’s goal is to provide you with the knowledge and skills to build a wonderful relationship between you and your dog through understanding, compassion, and guidance! This includes coaching the humans to better understand the β€œwhy” behind our dog’s behaviors; providing behavior modification plans rooted in the science of how dogs learn and behave; and modeling and training with your dog in humane, compassionate ways. Gina does not believe using pain, fear, or force in training is ever necessary or ethical, no matter the breed, age, or behavior needs. After supporting Austin’s people and pups for years, Gina recently made the move to Colorado and started The Joyful Dog Co., bringing access to one of the few highly certified, positive reinforcement dog trainers to the Denver area. Gina’s work will also forever be inspired by her two late adopted pups Gemma and Deli. Both pups helped Gina move away from the outdated idea of β€œobedience”. They taught Gina the importance of meeting both their physical and mental needs, and ensuring they were not only physically safe, but truly felt safe to learn, grow, and let their personalities shine. Both pups were true joy specialists - living life in the moment and to the fullest - something Gina hopes to share and instill in those she works with! Serving the greater Denver, CO area + virtual.

Hi, I’m Melanieβ€”the human behind REAL K9 Trainingβ„’ (Reward-based Ethically Aligned Learning). I’m a CPDT-KA, Certified Service Dog Trainer (Atlas CT), and Fear Free Certified Professional, specializing in service dogs, puppies and behavioral modifications. I’ve spent over a decade helping both ends of the leash reach their full potential. My work with service dogs covers every stage of the journey. Whether you’re just starting your search for the right prospect or already have a candidate in mind, I offer support with puppy selection, early socialization, obedience, public access, and task training. I work with both new and experienced teamsβ€”though I do not provide guide dog, allergen alert, or autism-specific training. Every training plan I design is customized to fit each handler’s real-life needs. In addition to service dogs and puppies, I work with dogs who have big emotionsβ€”fear, anxiety, reactivity, or just needing a little extra understanding. My approach is always positive, science-based, and tailored to each unique dog-and-human team. I support clients through one-on-one coaching, day training, virtual sessions, and monthly subscriptions, depending on what best fits your goals and lifestyle. Over the years, I’ve worked with both civilians and veterans through nonprofit programs, and I’ve partnered with rescues and shelters to help dogs build brighter futures. As someone who shares my own life with a service dog, I understand firsthand the impact this work can have. If you’re looking for real-life support, I’m here to help you navigate the hard partsβ€”with heart and science.

Erica is a Certified Dog Behavior Consultant through IAABC, Certified Professional Dog Trainer through CCPDT, as well as Fear-Free Certified for vet handling through Fear Free Pets. She is unique to other trainers in her ability to utilize a daycare, boarding, veterinary, and grooming facility in order to help your dog reach their full potential! If your dog has anxiety or aggression in the vet hospital or in grooming, she will help acclimate them to these services in the real setting. This facility is able to board no-contact dogs and she will train these dogs during their boarding stays. If your dog struggles with fear or aggression towards dogs or people, Erica will create a strategic socialization plan using the dogs and staff at the facility. In addition to dog and human aggression, she specializes in leash reactivity. Most dog trainers only have access to their own dogs or other clients' dogs to do structured passes. These structured passes are critical to healing leash reactivity. Erica will meet you at the facility and take dogs out one at a time (choosing the perfect challenge for where your dog is at) to practice. She covers any and all dog training and behavior topics including but not limited to resource guarding, obedience, recall, separation anxiety, jumping, mouthing, destruction, and all puppy topics. With over 135 5-star Google reviews for Erica with Treat and Repeat, rest assured you will be in the best hands!

Joanne Oliva-Purdy received her Ph.D. in Psychology from the Graduate School of the City University of New York 's Biopsychology program which included course work in four areas of animal behavior: Ethology, Learning Theory, Developmental Psychology and Neuroscience. While working on her thesis project on zebra finches, she started working at the Bronx Zoo training keepers and doing research projects in the Bird Department. She took a particular interest in parrots at this time, traveling to different facilities to see how they cared for their parrots. While finishing up her PhD work she joined the Baltimore Zoo as their Behaviorist and spent 5 years developing enrichment programs and helping the keepers work with chimpanzees, and large carnivores (bears and cats), among other species. She left as they transitioned to The Maryland Zoo and in 2000 started her companion animal behavior consulting business, Animal Behavior Services, in 2000 while working at the USDA's Animal Welfare Information Center. She moved to Colorado in 2001, continuing to consult with caretakers of dogs, cats and parrots and taught classes to shelter staff and companion animal owners along the Front Range. She taught dog training while in Leadville but decided to specialize in cats and parrots when she moved back down to the Denver area in 2012. The methods she recommends include management of the behavior problem, Classical Conditioning and Operant Conditioning, using positive reinforcement, and Environmental Enrichment. She avoids using punishment that produces fear or pain as they often produce undesirable side effects and damage the relationship you have with your pet. She looks forward to helping you and your companion improve your relationship.

Dog Training

I have been training dogs as long as I can remember. As a young girl, I would hold β€œdog shows” for all of my friends’ dogs. I was the kid that would always take care of the animals when neighbors went out of town, and truly loved spending time with them. As an adult I was constantly housesitting, and gaining experience working with a wide variety of breeds. We have also always had our own dogs, and our children showed them in 4H, which gave me a coaching job. I worked for a local breeder and in addition to providing care for the dogs, I also got to train and teach puppy classes. When our Leonberger, β€œPresley” joined the family, my passion for dogs led me to get more serious and start competing. In under 2 years, Presley became an AKC Champion, and received her Grand Championship by the time she was 2-1/2 (all owner-handled). We were so excited to get into the Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show in New York! Presley currently has 11 AKC titles in conformation, obedience, temperament, therapy and sports. We also got involved in therapy work, and are certified through Alliance of Therapy Dogs, and volunteer at the Boulder County Courthouse in Longmont, the Juvenile Assessment Center in Boulder County (juvenile detention), the Boulder County Jail, and Longs Peak Hospital. In addition to working with an amazing mentor, I decided to enroll in an intensive dog obedience instructor certification program, and was able to work with a wonderful, very established trainer in the Denver area. I graduated from the program with honors and became certified through the Animal Behavior College. I am a professional member of the Association of Professional Dog Trainers, an AKC approved Canine Good Citizen Evaluator and FIT DOG instructor, and I am also certified in Pet CPR and First Aid. I believe that training should be fun for both the dog and the humans, and would love to help you meet your goals. I am so excited to work with your dog! Please let me know if you have any questions!

When I was a child we had two beautiful Dalmatians that my dad trained to be show dogs. After they got old and passed away we had a Shepherd mix that loved to play fetch. I took care of him and was always trying to teach him new tricks. As an Adult I have always had many dogs and realized one day that this is what I want to do, train dogs! I have worked with many dogs and pet parents not only as a trainer or advisor but also as a dog day camp councilor. I have come across many different behaviors and have worked with the dog and their parents to help correct bad behavior. I love doing what I do and I would never change a thing about it.

I am a Colorado native who has always loved being around dogs. My dad would always tell me, β€œYou sure have a way with dogs!” Even though my life path did not lead me immediately into the dog world, I stayed continuously active doing volunteer work at the local humane society, helping dogs in shelters for many, many years. In 2008 I obtained a certificate in canine massage therapy, where I was able to further help the dogs in the shelters, but it just was not enough for me. Shortly after that, I decided that I needed to find a career that not only involved working with dogs on a level that would allow me to incorporate my love and natural connection with dogs but also put my skills to work to help owners have the best relationships they could with their pups as well. I enrolled in and graduated from the Animal Behavior College as a certified dog trainer. I currently have two dogs of my own – both rescues. A Newfoundland/Golden Retriever mix named Jamie and a Cattle Dog mix named Emma. Emma helped me to get certified as a dog trainer by assisting me in the externship portion of the college course. Dog Training

I began training dogs when I was just a little girl. I fell in love with the sport of dog agility and was willing to do anything to get my dog running in the ring. As time progressed, I became the proud owner of an Australian Shepherd and a Border Collie. Over the past ten years with these dogs, I have obtained over 30 titles on them in competitions. I continue to compete in agility with my dogs and am exploring other fun ways to train with dogs including herding, freestyle, rally obedience, and nosework. As I learned more about dog training, I developed my own training style and methods that I have found to work for most dogs and provides the dog with optimal understanding. I opened a dog training business in 2010 and began teaching mostly agility lessons as a contractor. As time progressed, I decided to earn a certification in obedience training at the Animal Behavior College (ABC) in order to continue my dog training career with certification. During my time at ABC, I was introduced to Cheryl Kresge at Tailwaggers. She offered me a position as a Dog Trainer and I have been happily training there since 2013. My training philosophy is based on positive reinforcement and minimal correction use. I believe in helping the dog understand what we are looking for by rewarding the good behaviors and ignoring the bad. Dogs will use common sense and engage in those very rewarding behaviors and begin to engage less in unrewarding behaviors. We need to teach our dogs exactly what we want them to do before we can ever correct a behavior. It is our job to give our dogs a reason to behave in a way more suitable for us – and with that comes many treats! I believe dog training should be fun for both the owner and the dog. I have knowledge of many training styles from positive reinforcement and shaping to more β€œtraditional” methods. Through my continued research and experience – I have found that dogs respond best to positive reinforcement methods. All dogs and owners are different

I have been training dogs from childhood. In my neighborhood, as a teen, I was known for teaching all the neighbor dogs silly tricks. In 2005 I decided to make it official and enrolled in Animal Behavior College. After graduation, I interned with a trainer/behaviorist for almost 1 year. I have learned so much and it has made dog training so easy and natural. I do private sessions and group classes and enjoy every minute of it. I just opened my own training center in March 2013. I love my life and my job! 4560 S. Reservoir Rd Centennial, CO, 80015

I currently offer personal dog training utilizing positive reinforcement techniques. It is my belief that training one’s dog is essential to the happiness and well-being of both dog and owner, setting the stage for a mutually positive relationship. When I meet with clients I focus on assessing the unwanted behaviors and troubleshoot using the least aversive techniques. I teach owners basic dog behavior to help them understand their dog’s actions and needs. Owners can expect to learn and practice positive reinforcement and negative punishment techniques.

Dog Training

After graduating high school, I knew that traditional college wouldn’t be the right path for me. Animal Behavior College offered me a chance to learn at my own pace, in my home, with my own very untrained dog. My certification came quickly and easily with the help of my star pupil, a Border Collie mix named Willow. She was eager to learn and I was eager to teach. She was highly motivated and attentive, and I got very lucky with her. With my newly certified over confidence, I adopted a highly abused rescue Pit Bull mix named Lucy. This girl put me through more training hoops than I could have ever anticipated. In the years I’ve had her, we’ve faced everything from dog aggression, destructive behaviors, potty training, fear of almost everything, socialization, table manners, basic obedience, moving (by car) to new states twice, leash manners, people skills, getting along with cats, appropriate public behavior, jumping, and so much more. She has shown me the true power of commitment to a cause, and unconditional love. She has been an amazing teacher, student, and best friend all in one. My training methods are personalized on a case-by-case basis, as I know well that one type of training will never work for every situation. All lesson plans being with a free phone or email consultation, followed by a no cost, no commitment evaluation in your home. During our meet and greet, we will discuss your goals and needs for training, the challenges your pack is facing and possible ways to overcome them together, your schedule and your budget. This time allows us to communicate on a deeper level, as well as allowing me to get a better understanding of your pack dynamic, and your dog’s personality and motivations. My training programs generally last for around one hour per week, for 6-8 weeks or as long as needed. These lessons are usually family friendly, and I highly encourage children of all ages to be involved. The more people on the same page, the better! My training prices d
