Encompass Canines was started in 2021 because of our belief that dog training should be fun and realistic to each individual - both human and canine. We wanted to provide a safe place for dogs and their humans to learn, grow, and/or play, all in a positive way that fits their needs. Our goal is to enhance the relationship / bond between people and their canine companions, resulting in well behaved partnerships. As a behavior consultant, my goal is to go beyond teaching you and your dog skills. I work with the human client to help them better understand their dog and their behavior in a way that is informative and fun! With this deeper understanding of not just the individual dog but dogs as a whole, we can address behavior and approach it from a place of compassion and understanding that builds a stronger relationship with your canine companion as you work through the behavior modification process. Not only is training with me dog-friendly, it’s human-friendly too! Whether you’ve used different methods in the past or are a first-time dog owner, please know my goal is to help you learn so you can better help your dog through behavior struggles using force-free methods. I take great pride in having a good rapport with my human clients, listening to their needs and customizing training plans accordingly, and providing a fun and judgment free experience.

Jamie Pattison is a dedicated canine professional with extensive experience in service dog training, volunteer coordination, and program development. She has played a key role in training service puppies, guiding volunteer puppy raisers, and implementing evaluation standards to ensure successful service dog placements. Jamie has worked closely with organizations like Paragon Service Dogs, once known as International Hearing Dog, Inc., focusing on training materials, public access guidelines, and onboarding new volunteers. With a passion for education and positive reinforcement training, she has developed resources and classes to support both handlers and their dogs. Now transitioning into a new chapter as a mother, Jamie is seeking part-time, remote opportunities where she can continue contributing her skills while balancing family life.

I have been training dogs as long as I can remember. As a young girl, I would hold “dog shows” for all of my friends’ dogs. I was the kid that would always take care of the animals when neighbors went out of town, and truly loved spending time with them. As an adult I was constantly housesitting, and gaining experience working with a wide variety of breeds. We have also always had our own dogs, and our children showed them in 4H, which gave me a coaching job. I worked for a local breeder and in addition to providing care for the dogs, I also got to train and teach puppy classes. When our Leonberger, “Presley” joined the family, my passion for dogs led me to get more serious and start competing. In under 2 years, Presley became an AKC Champion, and received her Grand Championship by the time she was 2-1/2 (all owner-handled). We were so excited to get into the Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show in New York! Presley currently has 11 AKC titles in conformation, obedience, temperament, therapy and sports. We also got involved in therapy work, and are certified through Alliance of Therapy Dogs, and volunteer at the Boulder County Courthouse in Longmont, the Juvenile Assessment Center in Boulder County (juvenile detention), the Boulder County Jail, and Longs Peak Hospital. In addition to working with an amazing mentor, I decided to enroll in an intensive dog obedience instructor certification program, and was able to work with a wonderful, very established trainer in the Denver area. I graduated from the program with honors and became certified through the Animal Behavior College. I am a professional member of the Association of Professional Dog Trainers, an AKC approved Canine Good Citizen Evaluator and FIT DOG instructor, and I am also certified in Pet CPR and First Aid. I currently offer personal dog training utilizing positive reinforcement techniques. It is my belief that training one’s dog is essential to the happiness and well-being of both dog and owner, setting the stage for a mutually positive relationship. When I meet with clients I focus on assessing the unwanted behaviors and troubleshoot using the least aversive techniques. I teach owners basic dog behavior to help them understand their dog’s actions and needs. Owners can expect to learn and practice positive reinforcement and negative punishment techniques.
