My focus has been working with dogs (mostly ones who have been injured, abused, or traumatized) within the shelter environment helping them to adjust and prepare for adoption. I specialize working with dogs experiencing fear, anxiety, stress, and trauma.

Karen is the co-owner of Canine Connection newly relocated to the Memphis TN area with her husband, Bob Deeds, a retired Federal K9 Handler on Texas Task Force I. Karen started her business in 1994 after realizing the need for educating the public about dog training and behavior while volunteering for a local humane society. She worked in the Assistance Dog Field for 15 years and the vet profession for 9 years. She currently provides her expertise on behavior problems including fear, anxiety and aggression. She has consulted and worked with thousands of pet dog owners, various shelters and many rescue organizations, as well as has testified in dozens of court cases regarding dog bites. She specializes in reactivity and is currently teaching in person, online, phone consultations and does webinars on various topics. She also specializes in Puppy Problem prevention in the home and working with Reactivity and aggression cases.\r\nKaren has presented seminars to the general public, rescue groups, animal control officers, at various dog training clubs, dog training facilities, and various shelters throughout Texas, Louisiana, Florida, Ohio, and Tennessee. She has presented at the Dallas SPCA, Texas A&M Veterinary College Behavior Club, Texas Animal Control Association Conference, Missouri Animal Control Conference, TN Animal Care and Control, the annual Texas Unites for Animals, and the IAABC conference and has presented through FDSA. She is often called upon to help rescue groups make difficult decisions about behaviorally challenged dogs in their care. Her work with high drive working and sport dogs have helped develop more comprehensive behavior modification protocols that are dramatically impacting the success of her students.\r\n\r\n\r\n

Hi! I just graduated on Aug 5th 2016! (my birthday!) I am certified in basic obedience- sit, stay, leash walking/pulling, & lots of unruly behaviors in/around your home. Feel free to ask me any questions and we will work together to try to help your pup! Nobody wants an out of control dog and I am here for YOU. Any dog can be a good dog if you guide them. I wanted to become a trainer while working at my current job, doggy daycare and boarding. I was in daycare and there was a few dogs that just wouldn’t be good. I thought- sheesh, these dogs need a trainer! They could be so great and sweet. Then a lightbulb went off in my head. I COULD BE THE TRAINER. Here I am, ready for anything.

I specialize in force-free, positive based dog training. I am an active member of the Professional Dog Trainers of the Mid-South and offer private lessons in the privacy and comfort of your own home. Group classes are in progress as well. I also offer dog sitting services in the Midtown Memphis area. I have three beloved rescue dogs of my own, and would love to provide you with the comfort and knowledge you need to build an excellent relationship with your dog.
