Bill Giese started training dogs in 2009 and established By My Side Dog Training, LLC in 2013. Bill provides force-free, positive reinforcement dog training services to individual clients in their homes in the metropolitan Saint Louis area. In-home settings provide personal attention to the individual client's needs, and to the relationship between the client and their dog. Services are recommended and tailored to be affordable, while meeting training needs and objectives. The science behind canine behavior and training supports a force-free, pain-free, positive reinforcement training approach as the most long-term effective and humane method for training a dog, eliminating unwanted behaviors, and building a positive relationship with our dogs. Bill started down the path of training dogs when he brought into his home a 4-month old puppy off the street in 2006. Libby had clearly not been properly socialized with other dogs or people, and presented several behavior issues that prompted Bill to seek a professional dog trainer. He was fortunate to connect with a trainer associated with the Greater St. Louis Training Club (GSLTC). Since that time, he completed the club's trainers course, served as president of the GSLTC for two terms, and has served as the lead trainer for puppy, adult dogs, and dogs with issues (reactive and shy dog) classes. Bill is a Certified Professional Dog Trainer - Knowledge Assessed (CPDT-KA). He earned this certification through the Certification Council for Professional Dog Trainers (CCPDT). All certified trainers must pass a rigorous examination and earn continuing education credits to maintain their designations. Bill is a Fear Free Certified Professional. The mission of the Fear Free program is to prevent and alleviate fear, anxiety, and stress in pets by inspiring and educating the people who care for them. Certification requires passing an initial course and earning continuing education credits to maintain the designation. Bill is a Dog Training Professional Full Member of the Pet Professional Guild. The Pet Professional Guild is a membership organization representing pet industry professionals who are committed to results based, science based force-free training and pet care. Bill is a Professional Member of the Association of Professional Dog Trainers (APDT) and pursues continuing education through professional journals, books, seminars, and trainer networks.

As a certified dog trainer, I teach canine life and social skills to dog owners. I am a certified PetTech instructor teaching 1st Aid/CPR to dog professionals such as Police Canine, SAR, groomers, trainers and dog parents.

I’ve been Dog Training since September of 2010. I completed a 2-year hands-on training course between 2010 and 2012. It was a comprehensive and practical study in the fields of dog behavior, handling, and training. During that period, I completed 300 practical teaching hours of group class instruction and behavioral handling. I completed 40 plus hours of Mentor Instructor /Dog Trainer certification through Petco in 2014. Since 2017, I am an approved American Kennel Club Canine Good Citizen Class Testing Evaluator. In 2018, I was also approved as an American Temperament Test Evaluator. I completed a 40 hour dog training course through Petco in 2013 called “Positive dog training”. I was a Group Obedience Dog Trainer at Petco from 2013 through 2016. I have been a Mentor Instructor for Animal Behavior College since 2014. In 2017, I became a professional member with the International Association of Canine Professionals (IACP). I was a Service Dog class Instructor for MOPP from 2016 to 2018. Since 2016, I have been running my own Dog Training Company. I offer group obedience classes, owner-focused individual sessions, and a boot camp board and train option. The style of training ranges from basic obedience to service level work. In April of 2022, I completed a Pet CPR/First Aid Certification through the Front Line Coalition. In Dec of 2021 I started my certification exam through the IACP. Feb of 2023 I passed and earned their Certified Dog Trainer Title March of 2023 Accepted into Assocation of Professional Dog Trainers and IAABC earned the accredited dog trainer through IAABC Earned the L.E.G.S Family Dog Mediator Certification Currently working towards the IAABC-CDBT, CBATI, Fear free certification, shikashios master course in aggressive dogs and Pet Harmony pet pro course for building enrichment and dog behavior consulting. I am currently studying through COAPE to earn my MHERA Certified Clinical Animal Behavior Diploma. I’m a new trainer to the St. Louis area and ready to get my dog training career started. I rescued my border collie two years ago, and ever since then I have had a passion for training and teaching others what I have learned to help them build a better relationship and bond with their dog while also seeing incredible improvement in their dog’s behavior. I’m excited, ambitious and ready to see where my dog training career will take me.
