Behavior that is rewarded is repeated. Your dog will learn that coming to you when called is a positive experience and he will repeat the behavior. Originally from Alaska, Hannah moved to Colorado at the peak of COVID19 pursuing a career in military psychology, suicide prevention, and equine therapy. After a personal event followed by months of depression, Hannah realized a career in suicide prevention was not the right fit, and she wanted to return to an old love: everything canine. In her words, “I just want to get married, train dogs, and write books.” She consulted with her (unknown and soon-to-be) mother-in-law, a certified positive reinforcement (R+) trainer, who introduced Hannah to the force free dog training science. Hannah started by volunteering at the Humane Society of Boulder Valley in Boulder, CO. in the R+ behavior modification department, then completed the Dog Trainer Foundations course through the Karen Pryor Academy, the leader in R+, marker-based training. Shortly after, Hannah joined the team at Training Wheels, Colorado’s only specialized boarding facility for fearful, aggressive, and behaviorally sensitive dogs. She quickly moved from kennel attendant, to shift manager, to boarding coordinator, and finally, training assistant. While at Training Wheels, she was invited to and completed a beta internship program for trainers, designed and taught by mentor Jamie Flanagan KPA-CTP, CPDT-KA. At the same time, Hannah acquired her Fear Free Certified Professional trainer certification (FFCP) through Fear Free Pets and her Accredited Dog Trainer credential (IAABC-ADT) through the International Association of Animal Behavior Consultants. After her time at Training Wheels, Hannah spent over 500 hours implementing Applied Behavioral Analysis (ABA) therapy for children living with autism. While working directly in ABA, she deepened her understanding of behavior, its functions, and effective skill acquisition and behavior change strategies. In the midst of the career chaos, Hannah met and married her wonderful husband, Mason, spent two short years with her reactive but sweet Labrador mix, Rosie, and moved to Nebraska to get away from the Denver Metro area. In her free time, Hannah enjoys spending time with Mason, training their parakeet Shadrach, and intending to write a WWI historical fiction trilogy to add to her list of three completed novels.

I train in a positive training based method. My most rewarding avenue is teaching new puppy owners to start out right with the newest family member. I hope that the new puppy’s future is secure, and with the correct knowledge and correct beginnings that I help establish. That all thrive and live a great family life together. All training depends on home work by dog owner. 1. New puppy class are my specialty! This the basis for happy home with the new puppy. 2. Obedience is started after learning the basics and establishing good manners from the new puppy class 3. Rally is a fun competitive sport you can do with your dog if you take obedience and would love to do more 4. Conformation for the dog show people. This is a group activity not a class I teach but a practice for show people and the dog. 5. Problem Solving – Jumping, Biting, Potty Training issues. And more

I am a certified obedience dog trainer. I would like to focus on education. I would like to teach people, especially children how wonderful dogs are and the correct way to behave around them. I would also like to educate people on ways that they can change their daily life to make their life and their pets’ lives happier and healthier. I would like to help educate people on what dogs fit into their life and why. And also to prevent people from picking a dog that doesn’t suit them in the first place.

I have been training professionally since 2004. I had started specifically with shelter dogs and Pit Bulll dogs ups breeds but have since branched off considerably. In my years as a certified trainer, I have worked with many area rescues doing assessments, behavior modification, basic obedience and adoption situations. I have done seminars on child and dog safety, written articles on training for a local online paper and have had a hand in helping my county’s BSL ban NOT get passed. I have also had one of my training situations published in Dog Fancy magazine in 2014. I train with balance and/or positive reinforcement methods and have successfully handled everything from potty training to rehabilitating abused and neglected dogs to safe and friendly homes. I have also entered into an additional field of training as a Certified Service Dog Trainer. I am part of the First Responders Foundation as a trainer for their Javelan program (Javelan.org) in Nebraska, where we train retired and medically retired military men and women how to train their pet dog to become their specific task driven service dog. I strive everyday to learn more about people and their dogs and how I can help keep their relationships I act and beneficial to both. Several rescue and individual client references available.
